On March 13th, 1997, Hundreds of witnesses throughout Phoenix, Arizona, and the surrounding area observed what was to become the most controversial UFO sighting in decades. For at least two hours, Arizona residents watched an array of lights move across the sky, as low as 150 feet off the ground and many reportedly saw a dark, triangular object with those lights moving over the area from Henderson, Nevada, through Arizona and over Phoenix and Tucson. Many witnesses described the lights as being bright, silent, and low-flying, with some reporting the formations moving at very slow speeds. The Phoenix Lights are considered one of the most widely witnessed UFO sightings in modern history sparking numerous theories and discussions about UFOs, extraterrestrial life, and unexplained phenomena. The Phoenix Lights incident gained national attention, with major news networks covering the sightings and interviews with eyewitnesses, making headline news around the world. And now a festival, PHXLIGHTS, is held annually in Arizona to celebrate the Phoenix Lights sighting, with events, screenings, and speakers related to UFOs and unexplained phenomena.
